THE HOLIDAYS

Like every other major religion, Wiccans have holidays that we celebrate and for which we have created ritual and traditions.  We celebrate eight holidays, or Sabbats,  throughout the year.  Each holiday represents a turning of the season, and together are referred to as the wheel of the year.

Some of the Sabbats have variable dates determined by the position of the sun and length of sunlight in the day, while others are celebrated on the same day every year.  However, they all have one thing in common--they celebrate the change in the seasons and the earth.  Throughout this section, we have included dates for 2003 for your reference.

In addition, we have included a table of corresponding representations, including colors, altar decorations and God/Goddess names.  Please keep in mind that these are included as suggestions, and your tradition may have slightly different symbols.  And as always, go with what intuitively feels right to you for the holiday--only you know what spiritual/emotional work you need to do, or what milestones you have to celebrate.

All eight Sabbats are highlighted below, in order of occurrence, beginning with Yule.
