Several years ago, one of Lee's former covenmates lost a piece of jewelry with sentimental value, and asked the coven to help her with a "lost and found" spell.  The spell worked, but we apparently weren't specific enough about what exactly was supposed to come back to our sisterwitch.  In addition to finding her lost jewelry within the day, she began finding other odds and ends that had disappeared, someone who had owed her money for several years sent her a check in the mail unexpectedly, and she even reconnected with an old friend with whom she had lost touch.  More proof that spells can often work in wonderful and surprising ways.

Our friend Sabrina (not her real name!) did a prosperity spell in order to pay some unexpected bills.  Within a week, she received a check in the mail for profit sharing from a previous employer she didn't know owed her any money, and she thought, hey, the spell is working!  Then, the next week she had to work 30 hours of overtime on a big project at work, babysat a friend's kids for an entire weekend, but then ended up in bed for a week with the flu because she was so exhausted.  She got exactly what she asked for, she just didn't remember to put in the caveat that she really didn't want to have to work so hard that she made herself sick.  Of course, that's kind of the way things balance out - it you're not willing to put a little energy out there, you won't get anything in return!

Another funny story belongs to a friend of ours who did a spell to find the perfect apartment.  She included all sorts of things like the number of bedrooms she wanted, the price range, the ideal landlord, the ideal neighborhood and a few other little odds and ends.  To make a long story short, she ended up with what exactly what she asked for, but nothing more.  She didn't specify that she wanted a shower (just good water pressure) so she had to build her own, and while she asked that the utilities be included in the rent, she forgot to ask that she have adequate heat, electricity and hot water on a regular basis.  In addition, the landlord seemed very nice at first and quite pagan friendly as specified in the spell, but after a couple of months had a complete personality change, making things very awkward since he lived downstairs.  There were lots of other little things that just weren't quite right, but that pretty much sums up the experience.  So be careful what you ask for - that may be exactly what you get!
